Preheating your oven is crucial for achieving the perfect Garlic Parmesan Roasted Parsnip Fries. The ideal temperature for roasting parsnips is 425°F (220°C). This high heat allows the fries to crisp up beautifully while ensuring they cook through evenly. Preheating the oven also helps to lock in moisture and flavor, giving your fries that delightful golden-brown exterior. Take the time to preheat your oven fully before placing your parsnips inside; this simple step can make a significant difference in the final texture and taste of your dish.

Ingredients

3 large parsnips, peeled and cut into fry shapes

3 tablespoons olive oil

4 cloves garlic, minced

1 teaspoon sea salt

1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

1 teaspoon smoked paprika

1/2 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese

2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Optional: additional grated Parmesan for serving

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Start by preheating your oven to 425°F (220°C). To simplify cleanup afterward, line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Prepare the Parsnips: Peel the parsnips carefully. Slice them into fry shapes, ensuring each piece is similar in size for even cooking. Aim for about ¼ to ½ inch in thickness.

Season the Fries: In a large mixing bowl, combine the parsnip fries with olive oil, minced garlic, sea salt, black pepper, and smoked paprika. Using your hands or a spatula, toss the mixture until all the fries are well-coated with the seasoning.

Arrange on Baking Sheet: Transfer the seasoned parsnip fries onto the prepared baking sheet. Spread them out in a single layer, leaving space between each fry to promote even crisping during roasting.

Roast the Parsnips: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and roast the parsnip fries for approximately 20 minutes. Stir or flip the fries halfway through cooking to ensure they brown evenly on all sides.

Add Parmesan: After the initial roasting time, carefully remove the fries from the oven. Evenly sprinkle the freshly grated Parmesan cheese over the top of the fries. Return the baking sheet to the oven for another 5-7 minutes, or until the fries are golden brown and crisp, and the cheese is melted.

Garnish and Serve: Once they are done, remove the fries from the oven and garnish with chopped fresh parsley for a touch of color and freshness. Serve the fries immediately, with additional grated Parmesan on the side, if desired.
