Ingredients

2 cups fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced

1/2 cup fresh basil leaves, packed

1 cup fresh lemon juice (about 4-6 lemons, depending on size)

1/2 cup honey or agave syrup (adjust to taste)

4 cups water, divided

1 cup ice cubes

Lemon slices and basil sprigs for garnish

Instructions

Prepare the Strawberry Puree: In a blender, add the sliced strawberries along with 1/2 cup of water. Blend until you achieve a smooth consistency. If you prefer a smoother texture without seeds, pour the mixture through a fine mesh sieve to strain out the seeds. Set the strawberry puree aside.

Make the Basil Infusion: In a medium saucepan, combine the remaining 1 cup of water with the fresh basil leaves. Heat the mixture over medium heat until it reaches a gentle boil, then immediately remove it from heat. Allow the basil leaves to steep in the hot water for about 10-15 minutes. After steeping, strain the basil leaves from the liquid and let the infusion cool.

Create the Lemonade Base: In a large pitcher, mix together the fresh lemon juice, honey (or agave syrup), the prepared strawberry puree, and the cooled basil infusion. Stir the mixture well until the honey is completely dissolved.

Incorporate Additional Water: Pour in the remaining 3.5 cups of water into the pitcher and stir thoroughly to combine all ingredients. Taste the lemonade and adjust sweetness if necessary, adding more honey or agave syrup according to your preference.

Freeze for Slushy Consistency: Pour the lemonade into ice cube trays and freeze for a minimum of 4 hours or until fully solid. Alternatively, you can freeze the entire lemonade mixture in a large container, stirring every hour until it develops a slushy texture.

Serve Up the Refreshment: To serve, blend the frozen lemonade cubes or the slushy mixture with 1 cup of ice cubes in the blender until the texture is smooth and slushy. Pour the refreshing drink into glasses and garnish each serving with slices of lemon and sprigs of fresh basil.

Enjoy: Raise your glass and savor the delightful flavors of your Frozen Strawberry Basil Lemonade on a warm day – it’s the perfect thirst-quencher!
