Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) instant yeast

1 teaspoon granulated sugar

¾ teaspoon fine sea salt

¾ cup warm water (approximately 110°F or 43°C)

2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil (plus more for brushing)

4 cloves garlic, finely minced

1 teaspoon dried oregano

½ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)

¼ cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese

2 tablespoons fresh parsley, finely chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

Prepare the Dough: In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, instant yeast, granulated sugar, and fine sea salt until well combined.

Mix Ingredients: Pour in the warm water and the 2 tablespoons of olive oil. Stir the mixture using a wooden spoon or spatula until a shaggy dough starts to form.

Knead the Dough: Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Knead the dough for 5-7 minutes, until it becomes smooth and elastic, adding more flour as needed to prevent sticking.

First Rise: Shape the dough into a ball and place it in a greased bowl. Cover the bowl with a clean kitchen towel and place it in a warm, draft-free area. Allow the dough to rise for about 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.

Make Garlic Oil: In a small mixing bowl, combine the minced garlic, 1 tablespoon of olive oil, dried oregano, and red pepper flakes (if using). Mix well and set aside to allow the flavors to meld.

Shape the Breadsticks: Once the dough has risen, gently punch it down to release air. Roll it out into a rectangle approximately ½ inch thick. Using a knife or pizza cutter, slice the dough into strips about 1 inch wide and 6 inches long.

Second Rise: Arrange the strips on a parchment-lined baking sheet, ensuring they are spaced apart. Cover them with a towel and let them rise for another 30 minutes.

Preheat Oven: About 10 minutes before the second rise is complete, preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).

Add Garlic Oil: After the second rise, brush each breadstick generously with the garlic oil mixture, ensuring to cover the tops thoroughly. Evenly sprinkle the grated Parmesan cheese over the breadsticks.

Bake: Place the baking sheet in the oven and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the breadsticks are golden brown and crispy on the outside.

Garnish and Serve: Once baked, remove the breadsticks from the oven and immediately sprinkle with chopped parsley for a pop of color. Serve them warm with marinara sauce or your preferred dipping sauce for an extra delicious pairing.
