Feta cheese has its roots deeply embedded in Greek cuisine, where its production dates back thousands of years. Traditionally made from sheep's milk or a blend of sheep's and goat's milk, feta is characterized by its crumbly texture and tangy flavor. The cheese is aged in brine, which not only contributes to its unique taste but also helps preserve it, making it a versatile ingredient that can be enjoyed in various forms.

Ingredients

1 block (8 oz) feta cheese

1 cup panko breadcrumbs

1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1 teaspoon dried oregano

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional for heat)

2 large eggs

1/4 cup all-purpose flour

Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Olive oil spray

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Begin by preheating your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and assist with easy cleanup later.

Prepare the Feta: Carefully cut the block of feta cheese into uniform, bite-sized cubes, approximately 1-inch thick. Place the feta cubes on a plate or cutting board and set them aside for later use.

Set Up Dipping Stations: Prepare three shallow bowls to create your coating stations:

        - In the first bowl, add the all-purpose flour and season it lightly with a pinch of salt and black pepper.

          - In the second bowl, crack the two large eggs and whisk them vigorously until they are fully blended and frothy.

            - In the third bowl, mix together the panko breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, dried oregano, garlic powder, black pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using) until well combined.

              Coat the Feta:

                - Take one feta cube and gently coat it in the seasoned flour, shaking off any excess.

                  - Next, dip the floured feta into the beaten eggs, ensuring it is evenly covered on all sides.

                    - Finally, roll the cube in the panko mixture, pressing lightly to ensure the breadcrumbs adhere well. This will create that crispy texture we desire.

                      - Repeat this process for all feta cubes, placing them neatly on the prepared baking sheet once coated.

Bake the Feta: After all feta cubes are prepared and arranged on the baking sheet, lightly spray the tops with olive oil. This will enhance the crispiness during baking. Place the sheet in the preheated oven and bake for about 20-25 minutes. Keep an eye on them until they are golden brown and wonderfully crispy.

Serve and Garnish: Once baked, remove the feta cubes from the oven and allow them to cool for a couple of minutes. To add a touch of freshness and color, garnish with freshly chopped parsley.

Enjoy: Serve your crispy baked feta crust cubes warm as a delectable appetizer or as a delightful snack. They pair wonderfully with fresh veggies, pita chips, or your favorite tangy dipping sauce for a truly irresistible treat.
