Ingredients

1 loaf of cinnamon raisin bread (approximately 12 slices)

6 large eggs

2 cups whole milk

1/2 cup heavy cream

1/2 cup brown sugar, packed

1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract

1 tablespoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

1/4 teaspoon sea salt

1/2 cup raisins

1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

Maple syrup, for serving

Powdered sugar, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Prep the Bread: Start by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C). Take the cinnamon raisin bread and slice it into cubes, aiming for about 1-inch pieces. Set these aside in a large mixing bowl.

Make the Egg Mixture: In a separate large mixing bowl, crack the eggs and whisk them thoroughly. Add in the whole milk, heavy cream, brown sugar, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, nutmeg, and sea salt. Continue whisking until all ingredients are completely well combined and the mixture is smooth.

Combine: Slowly fold the cubed bread into the egg mixture, ensuring that each piece of bread is evenly coated with the mixture. If you are using walnuts, fold them in along with the raisins for an added crunch and flavor.

Transfer to Baking Dish: Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish generously with butter or non-stick spray. Carefully pour the bread mixture into the dish, spreading it out evenly to ensure even baking.

Soak: Cover the prepared dish tightly with plastic wrap and allow it to sit at room temperature for 30 minutes. This will give the bread a chance to soak up the egg mixture. For a more intense flavor and a better texture, consider refrigerating it overnight.

Bake: Remove the plastic wrap and place the baking dish in your preheated oven. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes. You'll know it's done when the top is golden brown and the center is set. If you notice it browning too quickly, cover it loosely with aluminum foil for the last 10 minutes of baking.

Serve: Once baked, take the dish out of the oven and let it cool for about 5-10 minutes. Cut into squares for serving. Plate each square warm, drizzling with maple syrup and optionally sprinkling with powdered sugar for extra sweetness.

Garnish: For a delightful finishing touch, top your servings with fresh fruit or additional raisins and nuts, making it not just delicious but visually appealing as well.
