Ingredients

2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

½ teaspoon salt

1 cup unsalted butter, softened to room temperature

¾ cup packed brown sugar

¾ cup granulated sugar

2 large eggs, at room temperature

2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract

2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

1 cup chopped nuts (optional, such as walnuts or pecans)

Instructions

Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Prepare a 9x13 inch baking pan by lining it with parchment paper, allowing some overhang on the sides for easy removal. Lightly grease the parchment paper to prevent sticking.

Mix dry ingredients: In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt until thoroughly combined. Set this mixture aside for later use.

Cream butter and sugars: In a large mixing bowl, use an electric mixer on medium speed to beat together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until the mixture becomes light and fluffy, approximately 2-3 minutes.

Add eggs and vanilla: Incorporate the eggs one at a time into the butter and sugar mixture, beating well after each addition. Next, add the vanilla extract and mix until fully incorporated.

Combine wet and dry ingredients: Gradually add the dry flour mixture into the wet ingredients, mixing on low speed. Continue mixing just until combined—be careful not to overmix, as this can affect the texture of the bars.

Fold in chocolate chips: Using a spatula, gently fold in the semi-sweet chocolate chips and the chopped nuts (if desired), ensuring they are evenly distributed throughout the cookie batter.

Spread into the pan: Pour the prepared cookie batter into the lined baking pan, using a spatula to spread it evenly across the surface for uniform baking.

Bake: Place the baking pan in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes. The cookie bars are ready when the edges are golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs (not wet batter).

Cool and slice: Once baked, remove the pan from the oven and allow the cookie bars to cool in the pan on a wire rack for about 10 minutes. Afterward, use the parchment overhang to lift the bars out of the pan and let them cool completely on the wire rack before cutting them into squares or rectangles.

Serve and enjoy: Serve your delightful chocolate chip cookie bars warm or at room temperature. They pair perfectly with a glass of milk or your favorite beverage!

Prep Time: 15 minutes | Total Time: 45 minutes | Servings: 24 bars

                        - Presentation Tips: For an extra touch, sprinkle a few chocolate chips on top of the bars after they come out of the oven. Consider serving them on a decorative platter, perhaps paired with small glasses of milk for a delightful presentation.
