Ingredients

1 pound rigatoni pasta

4 cups marinara sauce (store-bought or homemade)

2 cups ricotta cheese

2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

1 cup grated Parmesan cheese

2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil

3 cloves garlic, minced

1 teaspoon dried oregano

1 teaspoon dried basil

½ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)

Salt and black pepper to taste

Fresh basil leaves for garnish

Instructions

Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 375°F (190°C) and allow it to preheat while you prepare the other ingredients.

Cook the rigatoni: In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add the rigatoni and cook according to the package instructions until al dente. Once cooked, drain the pasta and set it aside.

Sauté the garlic: Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute, or until fragrant. Be careful not to burn the garlic.

Make the sauce: To the skillet, add the marinara sauce, dried oregano, dried basil, and red pepper flakes (if you enjoy a bit of spice). Stir everything together and allow the mixture to come to a gentle simmer. Let it cook for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Prepare the cheese mixture: In a mixing bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, half of the shredded mozzarella, and half of the grated Parmesan cheese. Season the mixture with salt and black pepper to taste, ensuring it's well combined.

Combine pasta with sauce: Add the drained rigatoni to the skillet containing the marinara sauce. Stir well to ensure the pasta is thoroughly coated with the sauce.

Layer the dish: In a large baking dish, start by layering half of the rigatoni and sauce mixture. Spread half of the ricotta cheese mixture over this layer. Next, add the remaining rigatoni, followed by dollops of the remaining ricotta mixture. Finish by sprinkling the top with the leftover mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses.

Bake to perfection: Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and place it in the preheated oven. Bake for 25 minutes. After this time, remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and bubbly.

Garnish & Serve: Once baked, carefully remove the dish from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Before serving, garnish the top with fresh basil leaves to add a burst of color and flavor.

                    Prep Time: 20 minutes | Total Time: 1 hour | Servings: 6
