Ingredients

1 cup fresh blackberries

1/2 cup fresh sage leaves (plus extra for garnish)

1 cup granulated sugar

1 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice (approximately 4-6 large lemons)

4 cups cold water

Ice cubes

Lemon slices (for garnish)

Instructions

Make the Sage-Blackberry Syrup:

    - In a medium saucepan, combine the fresh blackberries, sage leaves, and granulated sugar.

      - Add 1 cup of water to the mixture. Heat over medium flame, stirring occasionally. Allow it to come to a simmer where bubbles gently break the surface. Cook for approximately 5-7 minutes, or until the sugar has fully dissolved, and the blackberries have softened and started to break apart.

        - Once cooked, remove the saucepan from heat and let it cool for about 10 minutes. This resting time will help the flavors meld beautifully.

          Strain the Syrup:

            - Take a fine mesh strainer and carefully pour the cooled blackberry-sage mixture through it into a bowl or pitcher, gently pressing the solids with the back of a spoon to release as much syrup as possible. Discard the leftover solids, ensuring a smooth syrup.

              Mix the Lemonade:

                - In a large pitcher, measure out the freshly squeezed lemon juice. Add the remaining 3 cups of cold water.

                  - Gradually pour in the strained sage-blackberry syrup, stirring as you go to combine the flavors thoroughly. Taste your lemonade and adjust the sweetness or tartness as desired by adding more syrup for sweetness or additional cold water for a lighter flavor.

                    Serve:

                      - Fill each glass with ice cubes and pour the refreshing blackberry sage lemonade over the ice, filling each glass to your preference.

                        - For an elegant touch, garnish each glass with a sprig of fresh sage and a slice of lemon, adding a beautiful pop of color.

                          Enjoy:

                            - This delightful drink is best served immediately, although you can also chill it in the refrigerator for up to 2 hours before serving for a refreshing treat at any time.
